Ferrocarril Metropolità de Barcelona, S.A. (TMB)

Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona is the management unit of the companies Ferrocarril Metropolità de Barcelona, S.A. and Transports de Barcelona, S.A.

These bodies provide a collective passenger transport service for the city of Barcelona, as well as to various municipalities within its orbit of influence, through two transport networks, overground and underground, which complement each other and at the same time, share this area of activity with the other companies in the sector. As the owner of both companies’ shares, Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) is the governing body that establishes the business guidelines for TMB to follow.

In February 2016, the metro network is formed by nine lines and the funicular railway. The network has 156 stations distributed along its 119 kilometres. In year 2015, the metro network supplied more than 385 million trips. The average distance between each station is 650 meters.

The rolling stock of the underground network amounted to 171 trains composed by 846 carriages. 100% of the metro fleet is air-conditioned. The trains in more modern services have interconnected cars to permit the optimum distribution of passengers.
